The Microinsurance MBA Association of the Philippines, Inc. (MiMAP) actively participated in developing the Health Microinsurance Framework as part of the technical working group composed of the Department of Finance- National Credit Council (DOF-NCC), Insurance Commission (IC), Department of Health (DOH) and other representatives from different organization.
The said Framework was developed to intensify the Universal Health Care Program of the Government by establishing a “sustainable private sector microinsurance industry” that will provide widespread and easy access to health microinsurance (microhealth) products and services. It aims to create products and services that are responsive to the needs of the clients. The Framework was also designed to foster proactive partnership with the private sector.
And just recently, the IC circulated a letter about the regulation of the provision of health microinsurance products and services to all insurance providers, including Mutal Benefit Associations (MBAs). MiMAP, as an organization working closely with different MBAs in the country, said that the Framework will help MBAs who are willing to provide microhealth develop products and services.
In line with the goal of the Government to provide health care in a larger scale, as stated in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2011-2016, microinsurance products and services are promoted to provide simple and affordable risk protection to the marginalized sector of the society and achieve greater inclusion.
