During the second half of 2016, Claims Administration Trainings was brought to various areas in the Philippines. This training aimed to intensify and to reinforce the knowledge and skills of MBA officers, especially provincial managers and claims personnel related to providing claims to beneficiaries. The training focused on life microinsurance and various requirements in processing claims for beneficiaries. These trainings were co-organized with the CARD MBA.
The training series is anchored on the review of the concepts of operation in microinsurance. Several members of Mi-MAP`s secretariat, headed by its Executive Director Mr. Jun Jay Perez, facilitated discussions on the regulatory and legal frameworks of microinsurance and microinsurance MBA in the country as well as the importance of promoting mutuality through microinsurance. Representatives from CARD MBA also provided their own discussion of CARD MBA`s claims administration.
Civil documents are pertinent requirements for claiming benefits from insurances. That is why area specialists from local registrars or the Philippine Statistics Authority facilitated the discussion on birth and other legal documents and their implications to insurance claims. The need for claims officers to have basic knowledge on medical terminologies that are frequently used terms for insurance claims was acknowledged by discussions from Dr. Sharma Vibette T. Ojeda of St. Luke`s College of Medicine and Dr. Roderick G. Belen of Microfinance and Health Protection Program (MaHP), CARD MRI.
The seminar also featured the discussion of the underlying connections about underwriting claims. Mr. Victor R. Tanjuakio of National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines compared the underwriting and claims processing and how they are connected. Atty. Jomer H. Aquino, a legal consultant from Burkley and Aquino Law Office, delved on the legal basis of beneficiaries of life insurances. Importance of efficient costumer interaction was also tapped by Ms. Gina Rose M. Sanchez of Sun Life Financial.
The trainings were conducted during the following dates and areas: July 13 to 15 in Bay, Laguna, August 10 to 12 in Banilad, Cebu City, and September 14-16 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
