Governance and AMLA Workshop for Mi-MBAs

The Microinsurance MBA Association of the Philippines, Inc. (Mi-MAP), in cooperation with the Insurance Commission (IC), held the Governance and AMLA Workshop 2016 at the New Horizon Hotel, Mandaluyong City on October 20–21, participated in by the representatives of the new Board and management of different MBAs. This workshop is in line with the advocacy to improve MBAs Board and staff knowledge on corporate governance and to cultivate a deeper understanding of Republic Act 9160, commonly known as the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2001 (AMLA).

 Several key speakers, including those from the IC, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), and the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), discussed topics such as basic principles of and accountability in corporate governance, governance in SEGURO indicators, implementing rules and regulations of AMLA and the ASEAN Governance Scorecard.

 Various MBAs, namely: CARD MBA, KMBA, and SEDP MBA, also shared their experiences in practicing corporate governance to inspire fellow newly-elected board members. After sharing their experiences, Mr. Jun Jay Perez, Mi-MAP Executive Director, summarized and discussed the important role of the board of trustees regarding monitoring and accountability of their respective MBAs.
